Spicy Mango Margarita

I’m all in when it comes to drinking margaritas.  It has to be one of my favorite mixed drinks.  To make matters worst they’ve established a day in the month of February as National Margarita Day.  Well, today I celebrate this day by making a spicy mango margarita.  All hail national Margarita day!

Just what exactly is a margarita you might ask?  To answer that I referred to the dictionary and it stated and I quote,  “a cocktail made of tequila and triple sec with lime and lemon juice.” My take on the margarita was to introduce the mango to the margarita party.

I love the taste of mango.  To introduce the flavor to the margarita cocktail would simply be divine.  Then I thought to myself, why not kick it up a notch by adding a jalapeno pepper  to the cocktail and Tajin Mexican spice to rim the edge of the glass.  Oh baby that was the best decision I’ve ever made about a drink.  I’m in LOVE! The jalapeno pepper gives the drink that unexpected kick.  You wouldn’t think it would work with the sweetness of the mango and the spice of the jalapeno.  Oh, boy does it ever work together.  I really likey likey!

The Tajin Classico seasoning which I used to rim the spicy mango margarita really made this cocktail pop. I even sprinkled a bite of the spice on top of the drink for appearance.   I had never tasted this spice before.  Oh my I will be incorporating it in other dishes.  The taste is spicy and tart at the same time.  The main ingredients in the spice are chili peppers and dehydrated lime.  If you like spice Tajin is for you.  It’s not overly hot it just has that unexpected heat.

I used a simple syrup on the rim to get the Tajin to stick to the rim of the glass.  You take the sweet, the heat and the spicy, and you have one unexpected taste dancing around in your mouth.  I then streamed hot sauce inside the glass on four areas before pouring the margarita into the class.  This spicy mango margarita will be a party in your mouth!
