It was so much fun spending time with my sister Sandra. Our mini-vacation was fabulous! That Saturday we went to New York City and moved on to New Jersey. We stayed in New Jersey overnight, got up the next morning and had a big breakfast so we could spend the day in Atlantic City.
Can you keep a secret and don’t tell anybody, Atlantic City is not my cup of tea. I visited Atlantic City for the love of my sister. Being a big sister I made the best of it. Sandra loves the slots it takes her to a happy place. The casino doesn’t quite do that for me so the plan was to get Sandra settled in a casino of her choice, and I would then spend my time strolling the boardwalk and seeing the sites.
The Cityscape of Atlantic City
When entering the city off the interstate you are greeted by the beautiful cityscape. It can be pretty inviting, luring you into the magic of the spinning wheels and the arms of the possible wins at the slot machines.
The Boardwalk
Halfway down the boardwalk there is a statue paying homage to the men and women who lost their lives in the construction of Atlantic City.
So many hotels have closed their doors but Caesars is still open for business. It’s there in the heart of the city inviting its guest to come in and play, “Hail Caesar!”
It appears that the boardwalk can go on forever.
I like to walk to get in my 10,000 steps each day, but for those who prefer to be transported there is the tram that goes from one end of the boardwalk to the other allowing visitors to get off the tram to stop and visit the beach shops and restaurants along the boardwalk.
There is beauty in the world.
Frolicking in the Atlantic Ocean I will never lose that “Kid at Heart.”
You can’t go to the boardwalk without having a Nathan’s hotdog. Delicious!
After meeting up for lunch my baby sis decided to get some sightseeing in. This is our incognito body shot. Privacy is very important to my sister I respect that.
The boardwalk can lead to the beach. You look out over the Atlantic Ocean and it is simply breathtaking.
A Step Back In Time
The trip home was a step back in time. I never knew New Jersey had so much farmland. To see the many cornfields and peach orchards was truly amazing. I guess that’s why it’s known as “The Garden State.” I never associated a metropolitan area such as New Jersey with farming. I’m so used to traveling through New Jersey on the interstate missing the wonderful countryside.
Traveling through the countryside gave Sandra and I a chance to reflect back to the time we were growing up as young girls in Alabama. In Alabama, we were minutes away from the municipal airport but far enough away from the city to enjoy a rural lifestyle. As young girls, we would roam the area freely picking plums, persimmons, figs, muscadine grapes, blackberries and climbing mulberry trees and eating the fruit right from the branches. We spent hours helping our aunt and uncle pick peaches and then helping prep the peaches for canning that grew right in their backyard. Now I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything in the world.
It’s amazing how traveling through the countryside can spark such nostalgia. It makes it extra special being able to share that experience with my sister, who is also my friend, and was my childhood playmate. How cool is that, I will cherish these memories forever.
