A Road Trip to Asheville, North Carolina

There’s nothing like a road trip to awaken the senses.  It’s a joyous feeling going on a new adventure. With that being said I’m off on a road trip to Asheville, North Carolina for a weekend of sightseeing and relaxation.

Asheville is located in the western part of the state, nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It’s the 11th largest city in North Carolina.

The Residence at Biltmore is within walking distance of restaurants, shops, breweries, and entertainment.  If you are looking for that down-home cozy feel, The Residence at Biltmore is your place to be.  The facilities are very impressive.

We stayed in this adorable unit. It had all the amenities of home. There was a kitchen, living room,  balcony, and a jacuzzi tub along with a swimming pool on the premises.  I thought the facility would be on the grounds of the Biltmore estate. That was the furthest from the truth.  The Biltmore Estate is the famous home of George W. Vanderbilt which visitors travel near and far year-round to tour the estate.  I made that assumption based on the name of the hotel. “The Residence at Biltmore.” Let’s say I was pleasantly surprised.  The facilities are actually right outside the Biltmore estate.  Don’t get me wrong the amenities were awesome.  The moral of the story is; ask the right questions if you want to get the right answers.

Asheville, The Small City With The Big Personality

Asheville is said to be the “small city with the big personality”. I found that to be the case. It has the charm and atmosphere of a quaint college town.

You can take in a concert at The Orange Peele it has a reputation for being one of the best live music venues in the country.   It’s one of the numerous music venues located throughout the town of Asheville.  Art is a big part of Asheville’s culture.  The Magnetic Theatre is the only theater in Asheville dedicated to the original works of local artists.  Beside,  Asheville local artists play a significant role in Asheville economy.

Resturants Galore

I got a real kick out of the quirky names of the establishments located throughout Asheville.  Olive & Kickin’, Thirsty Monk,  Mellow Mushroom,  Buffalo Nickel,  The Tree & Vine and  The Chop Shop just to name a few.  The town is small and quaint and easy to maneuver.   I literally road around the town checking out the names of the shops and businesses just for amusement.

There’s an ample supply of taverns, bistros, and restaurants in Asheville.  You can have your pick and choice of whatever food your heart desires.   The food is on point!   There is such a large selection of eateries that Asheville offers food tours.  It’s one way of sampling the many delectable cuisines in the area.

Surround yourself with the outdoors.   Asheville has wineries too.  Enjoy a walk in the vineyards. Are take a wine tasting class.  The Blue Ridge Parkway is there for those who enjoy hiking, a leisurely picnic,  or just connecting with nature. I’m convinced you could spend a week or two in Asheville and not do the same thing twice.  It’s just that much to do and see in this lovely town.

The Biltmore Estate

I can’t forget to mention the most visited mansion on the east coast, the Biltmore Estate.  The largest privately owned home built in the 19th century. George Vanderbilt built the Biltmore estate on 8,000 acres of land in Asheville, North Carolina.  People come from near and far to visit the estate.

There is a 1.7 mile free Urban Walking Tour of Asheville that’s open to its visitors.   It showcases the area’s architectural history giving the visitor the opportunity to learn more about the area.  Visitors line-up for the tours to gain a better perspective of the town of Asheville.

My visit to Asheville seemed to fly by.  I can safely say this is one of the best get-aways that I have been on for quite some time.   Asheville is a town I would love to visit again.  I really like the charm and the youthful atmosphere that I get from such a lovely town.
