Apple-Orange Cranberry Sauce

Ingredients
  • 12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 small apple, chopped
  • 1 orange, peeled and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar + ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
Instructions
  1. Remove any damaged berries from the fresh berries. Set aside ½ cup of the cranberries.
  2. Place the cranberries, water, sugar, and orange juice in a saucepan. Over medium heat stir, the ingredients constantly to dissolve the sugar.
  3. Cook the sauce until thicken and the berries began to burst. This can take up to 10 minutes to thicken. Then turn the heat down to a low setting to simmer.
  4. Using a food processor or a sharp knife roughly chop the orange and apple with the remaining ½ cup sugar.
  5. Add the roughly chopped orange, apple, and sugar to the cranberry sauce and continue to cook and mix thoroughly.
  6. Add the last ½ cup cranberries to the Apple- Orange Sauce along with the orange zest, and continue cooking for another 5 minutes.
  7. Allow the sauce to cool. Refrigerate or serve at room temperature. The cranberry sauce can be made days in advance. Enjoy
