There are various recipes on the internet for the coca cola cake. Each claiming to be a moist and delicious cake. Heck, I have a coca cola recipe book and it listed two different recipes for the same cake. One of the recipes featured a cake that was made from scratch and the second recipe detailed a cake that was made with a box mix.
Yep, you guessed it. I went with the recipe where the cake is made from the box mix. It’s all about the convenience. On top of that, it’s the recipe for the cake my family loves with a few added ingredients.
The frosting is a traditional buttercream with the addition of cocoa powder.

The Chocolate Indulgent Coca-Cola Cake
- 1 box (18¼ ounces) Devil Food Cake or chocolate cake mix
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup Coca-Cola
- ¼ cup water
- ½ cup oil
- Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting
- 1- 8 ounces package cream cheese, softened
- 1 stick butter, softened
- 4 cups confectionery sugar, sifted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 2 (8-inch) round cake pans; set pans aside.
- Combine cake mix, Cocca-Cola, water, oil, and eggs in large bowl; Beat at low speed of electric mixer until blended; beat at medium speed 2 minutes. Divide batter between prepared pans.
- Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until the toothpick inserted into centers of cakes comes out clean. Cool in pans on wire racks 10 minutes. Remove from pans to wire racks; cool completely.
- Meanwhile, prepare Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting. Combine sifted confectioners sugar and cocoa in large bowl; set aside.
- Beat cream cheese, butter and vanilla exact in large bowl until smooth. Gradually fold in confectioner sugar and cocoa.
- Place 1 cake layer on serving plate and frost top and sides with Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting. Repeat with the second layer.
