My New Home

I could see the potential in this house the very first time I laid eyes on it.  I could see this house becoming my new home.

After my divorce in 2000  having lived in a rental property for two years my dream was to buy a home for my sons and I.   A four-story, four bedrooms, two car garage foreclosure townhouse.   Clearly, it was my opportunity to start a new life.   After teaching and grading papers each day for weeks I would come down to this house and look at it each day waiting on the bank to make a decision on which qualified applicant would become the new owner. Deep down in my heart, I knew it would be my home someday.

Who removes faucet handles?  Well, they were missing in this kitchen.  Someone intentionally removed the faucet handles from the kitchen sink.   Thank goodness there hadn’t been any water damage.  The built-in microwave oven had been removed from the kitchen; however, it could be replaced. The refrigerator was a total loss.  It had sat for sometime unplugged with food rotten inside.  I would have to replace the refrigerator.  Insects had taken residence inside of the refrigerator. With this being the early 2000’s pickled wood in cabinetry was still in fashion so that was a plus. Above all, the cabinetry was in excellent condition in the kitchen.   That would be one less item that needs to be replaced in the house.   The beauty of it all was this was a fairly new property the house was only six years old.

The Property With Potentials

The property had plenty of potentials.  It had good solid bones. There was a beautiful fireplace. Double hung window panes throughout the house.   However, there had been quite a bit of damage done to the property.   The shrubberies had been ripped from the landscape.   A number of the walls had been written on.  The toilet paper dispensers had been pulled from the walls.  The carpet was deplorable. The house had been abused. The wear and tear in the house were obvious. It was in desperate need of a cosmetic makeover.  Through all of that,  I still could see the potential in that house.  Take a peek at what the kitchen looks like today over at The Evolution of A Kitchen and Dining Anyone?  I’m sure you’ll agree this space has come along ways in which it started.

All a person needs is a dream. Besides, nothing is impossible.   The imagination allows them to sore like a bird.  Most Americans strive to provide a home for their family.  Next, it could include furnishing that home.  After that, it could mean entertaining in the home.

A Dream Come True

There are those who would have walked away from the property not able to see it’s real potential.  Clearly, this house needed some tender loving care.   All the cards fell into place.  By taking one step at a time I became a new homeowner.

I found this home online in the fall of October 2002.  I made an appointment with my realtor to see the property.  After walking through all four floors I could see the house needed a lot of work.  Even though the house needed much work I could see this place becoming my home.  Finally, on January 17, 2003, this townhouse became my home. My dream house had become a reality.  Due to my persistence effort, my dream came true in becoming a homeowner.

I will never forget that Saturday when I moved into my new home. Because, I remember it snowing.  By all intense in purpose it was a lousy day for moving; However, it was one of the happiest days of my life because I was moving into my new home. I guess my neighbors were saying who moves in a house on a snowy winter day. The answer was clear. I did!  It was the beginning of a new phase of my life.
