Stir-Fried Brussel Sprouts with Balsamic and Crispy Bacon

I must say that this Stir-Fried Brussel Sprouts with Balsamic and Crispy Bacon is all that and a bag of chips.  In other words, it’s darn delicious! The flavor of the crispy bacon adds so much to the sprouts.  Besides what not to like about bacon?  Add a few pomegranate seeds as a garnish to deliver another level of flavor, and brightness to the dish.

To say that I like Brussels sprouts is an understatement.  Most people are either team Brussel sprouts are not.  Brussel sprouts belong to the cabbage family, and I must say I love, love me some cabbage however, I can’t say the same about those sprouts!  But this dish Stir-Fried Brussel Sprouts with Balsamic and Crispy Bacon literally changed my mind.  I’m now Team Brussel sprouts!

Brussel sprout is a cold winter vegetable that is sure to add variety to your meal.  Slice them thinly using a mandolin (a kitchen device used to slice vegetables) to make a Shaved Brussels Sprouts Cranberry and Almond Coleslaw found here on the website.  Quite the exceptional salad to a meal.

These beautiful sprouts can be sliced thinly using a sharp knife.  Next, saute´ the vegetables in bacon grease then season with a few spices to induce wonderful flavor throughout the Brussel sprouts.  Add a bit of balsamic vinegar to enhance the taste, and top with lots of pomegranate seed for the utmost burst of flavor.

Steps to Making Stir-Fried Brussel Sprouts with Balsamic and Crispy Bacon

  1. Take 3 thick slices of bacon then cut them into small pieces.  Fry in a skillet until crispy.  Remove from skillet and set aside.
  2. Sauté chopped onions and garlic in the bacon grease until onions are translucent.
  3. Add the sliced Brussel Sprouts to the onion mixture.  Season with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, Italian seasoning.  Sauté for 4 to 5 minutes.
  4. Bring a bit more flavor by adding 1/4 cup chicken broth which helps to steam the Brussel Sprouts for added tenderness.  Cook for another 5 to 6 minutes.
  5. Next, add the bacon back into the skillet and thoroughly incorporate the bacon into the Brussel Sprouts.
  6. Drizzle a couple of tablespoons of Balsamic vinegar into the pan.  Toss evenly throughout.  Remove from the heat.  Garnish with pomegranate seeds (optional).
