Safety and Security
Installing a Door Viewer
After receiving the keys to my new home I spent a few days celebrating the move. I spent a few weeks in my new place and I realized that I could not see out of my front door.
Safety and security are extremely important to me so I had to correct this issue immediately. So after a spending, a few weeks in my new home establishing a sense of security by installing a door viewer became my first official home project.
No one should feel unsafe in their own home it’s hard for me to grasp the premise. It makes no sense to have a front door in your home and you are not able to see who’s on the other side of the door.
Over the course of the next few weeks, the hardware store became my favorite place to visit. I looked forward to the Sunday circular to see what items were on sale. The door viewer is what I needed to install however it was never one of the items that were on sale. After a few Sundays I decided to purchase a door viewer regardless of the price. I keep my toolbox on high alert so I was ready for a challenge. The installation appeared to be pretty straightforward at any rate I gave it a shot. Installing a door viewer became my top priority.
The key is to read, comprehend, and follow the directions carefully.
Steps To Install A Door Viewer
- Mark the spot for the viewer
- Insert the hole saw into the drill.
- Put on the safety glasses.
- With a steady hand using the drill put a 9/16- inch hole in the door at eye level from one side of the door to the opposite side of the door.
- Insert barrel piece into the hole from inside and screw both sections together.
It was that simple, making a hole in the door and inserting the apparatus to have a clear view of the party on the other side. I immediately felt safer.
This is the type of project that some people especially women may feel uncomfortable approaching. When I thought about doing it initially I had reservations. After deciding to take on the challenge I simply read basic directions and it was quite simple.
