Super Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing

There is nothing better than the taste of a good homemade dressing.  Well, can I just say that Super Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing fits that bill?  I can’t remember the first time I realized that blue cheese was my favorite salad dressing.  Maybe it was the first time my family and I had dinner at the Red Lobster.  When the restaurant first came on the scene they had the best blue cheese dressing ever!  The dressing was filled with chunks of blue cheese which I absolutely loved.

It’s hard to believe, but that was the first time I had ever eaten blue cheese.  That restaurant set the standard for blue cheese dressing for me.  Now I get to make the delicious dressing at home thus I get to eat it whenever I like.

Uses for the Super Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing

Super Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing is truly delicious.  Literally I could eat this dressing morning, noon, and, night.  This is one multi-purpose dressing.  In this post,  the recipe was used as a dip.  Depending on how you like your dip it can be served thick and chunky as I have done or you could place it in a blender or food processor and use it as a smooth dip or dressing.

I love serving this dressing on a Tasty Cobb Salad, found here on the blog.  Click the link to get the recipe. There is a different blue cheese dressing recipe that accompanies the salad.  In this dressing, I’ve tweeted a few things making it a bit different from the recipe used on the Tasty Cobb Salad however, both dressings are equally delicious.  My motto is “always make a recipe your own by adding what you like.”

Steps to Making Super Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing

  1. Start with a wedge of blue cheese. The wedge appears to be a better quality cheese over the package crumble brands in my opinion.  The other ingredients that are needed are prepared mustard, lemon juice, salt, pepper, buttermilk, sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, A1 sauce (optional), and garlic powder.
  2. Crumble a 1/2 cup of blue cheese into a small mixing bowl.  Add the other ingredients to the bowl, with the milk being the very last to be added.
  3. The buttermilk helps to bring the dressing together.  You may need more or less depending on how thin or thick you would like your dressing or dip. Refrigerate the dressing for a couple of hours or overnight to help fully develop the flavor.  Helpful Hint: If you don’t have buttermilk use milk instead.  Add two teaspoons of lemon juice to the milk.  Stir the juice into the milk then add it to the dressing.
  4. Mix everything together and there you have it!  You’ll have a wonderful dressing in less than 5 minutes.

Add more blue cheese chunks to the dressing to make this baby super chunky!  How can I not eat my vegetables with this delicious Super Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing?

So this is your double-duty dressing.  Go on and use it on your salad or as a dip for veggies, if you have some Artisan bread, crackers, or use it as a dip for wings or pizza.  This dressing is so good I just love dipping my finger in my own TASTING BOWL just to enjoy the delicious flavor.  Just saying!

Blue Cheese Dressing Tips

  • Store the dressing in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 5 days also based on the freshness of your milk.
  • Opt to use fresh minced garlic instead of garlic powder.
  • Substitute Yellow Mustard for Ground Mustard, Whole Grain, Spicy Brown, or any other type mustard you might have.
  • Omit the A1 Sauce if you’d like
  • Add more milk if the dressing is too thick.
